The Ex-Puma is the First Aztec’s Place-Kicker to be Selected for this Honor
San Diego State sophomore John Baron II has been named to the 2016 Mountain West All-Conference Football First-team. He is the first Aztec to be selected for this honor since the school joined the Mountain West Conference. Baron is also a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, the nation’s most prestigious for college kickers.
The sophomore, a graduate of Chaparral High School, nailed 21 of 23 of his field goal attempts for San Diego State this year. He was also successful in 56 out of his 58 PAT attempts. He led the Aztecs with 119 points this season, ranked third in the conference for n field goal percentage (.895).
The left footed kicker has also kicked off 81 times for San Diego State for 5,056 yards, a 62.4 average, with 25 touchbacks. The Aztec sophomore has been integral in San Diego State’s success on the field. His range and deadly accuracy give San Diego State head coach Rocky Long a weapon that he can utilize with confidence..and has.

Baron lettered three years in football and soccer at Chaparral High School. He converted all 48 of his extra-point attempts during his career as a Puma. He was a perfect 38-for-38 in his senior year.
He was 11-of-16 on field goal attempts as a senior, his longest a 51 yarder. Baron was also selected to the first-team All-Southwestern League league team selection. He was also named the defensive MVP of the Chaparral Soccer Team.
San Diego also had six seniors selected to the Mountain West All-Conference team. They were running back Donnel Pumphrey who was named as Offfensive Player of the year. Damontae Kazee was the League’s Defensive Player of the Year. Offensive lineman Nico Siragusa. defensive lineman Alex Barrett, linbacker Calvin Munson, and defensive back Damontae Kazee. Junior Rashaad Penny, the Special Teams Player of the Year.
Baron is is Finance Major and is planning to be a Financial Advisor after graduation.
