Cal League Baseball: Alexander, Ryan and Isaac Make 66ers History, No-Hit Storm

A Trio of Inland Empire Pitchers Combined to Stymie Lake Elsinore 4-0

San Bernardino, CA- A trio of Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino combined to stymie the Lake Elsinore Storm on Wednesday and completed the franchise’s fourth no-hitter in its history in a 4-0 win.

Jason Alexander (7IP), Zac Ryan (1IP) and Sean Isaac (1IP) blanked the Storm and notched the first no-hitter for the club since Marlon Arias held down Bakersfield on May 9th 2007.

The first no-hit effort in the team’s history came from Ted Lilly on May 10th, 1997 and was also against Lake Elsinore. On June 14th, 1999 Marcos Castillo tossed a perfect game verses Lake Elsinore in a 4-0 win.

Alexander (1-2) allowed three walks through his first 1.1 innings and then got a double play line out off the bat of Marcus Greene Jr. to end the second inning. It was the first of 16 batters in a row that the righty from Windsor, CA set down to finish his day.

The Menlo (CA) College product finished with a season-best eight Ks. Luis Rengifo drilled two-run homer, his second, in the third inning off Lake Elsinore (10-17) southpaw Adrian Morejon (0-3). The Sixers added two more against the lefty in the fifth when Jordan Zimmerman smashed a two-run dinger to left, his first of the year.

Zac Ryan tossed a hitless eighth inning striking out two, he did walk two batters. In the ninth, Isaac walked Buddy Ryan to open the frame but then fanned the next two batters. The righty, who earned a save with a perfect ninth on Tuesday, got Eguy Rosario to pop out to Jahmai Jones at second base for the 27th out. Inland Empire pitching walked six batters and struck out 12 Storm batters.
