Stockton, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino, who on Friday shutout the Stockton Ports 3-0, found out how the other half lives as Stockton drilled the Sixers 7-0 on Saturday to even the three games set at a game apiece.
Inland Empire broke a scoreless tie in the fifth against Stockton (18-13) starter Parker Dunshee when Kevin Williams tagged a solo homer to right, his second of the year, to open the frame. Jordan Zimmerman and Alberto Triunfel each singled and eventually scored on Luis Rengifo’s two-out two-run single for a 3-0 lead.
Dunshee fell to 2-1 on the year collecting the first loss of his career. Inland Empire added to it’s lead in the eighth when Jahmai Jones jolted a liner out to left for his third dinger of the season.
Nate Bertness (1-2) earned his first win of the campaign tossing five shutout frames on three hits and four walks with five Ks. Tyler Stevens gave the Sixers 2.2 innings out of the pen and Aaron Cox tossed a perfect 1.1 innings to complete the 66ers Cal League-best sixth shutout of the year.
Brandon Sandoval had three hits for the 66ers while Rengifo, Jones, Zimmerman and Triunfel each had two-hit games. Jonah Heim had a sixth inning single for the Ports to extend his hitting-streak to a league-best 14 games.
