Cal League Baseball: JetHawks Down Sixers 7-2 and Earn Series Sweep

San Bernardino, CA- The Lancaster JetHawks downed the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino 7-2 on Sunday and completed three-game sweep. It marked the first time the JetHawks (71-56, 33-24) accomplished a road sweep this season and the fifth time that an opponent has swept the 66ers.

Joe Gatto (1-2) tossed two perfect innings for the Sixers running his scoreless streak to 14-innings but the JetHawks got on the board on Wilson Soriano’s sac fly. They added another in the fifth on Scott Burcham’s RBI double. They made it 3-0 in the top of the sixth when Wes Rogers added a RBI double.

Inland Empire finally scored against Lancaster starter Jesus Tinoco in the bottom of the sixth. Jake Yacinich tagged a double and then scored on Jahmai Jones’ RBI single. The hit extended Jones’ hit streak to 23-games with matches former Inland Empire 3B Jose Rojas and Lancaster SS Brendan Rodgers for longest in the Cal League this year. It proved to be the only run Tinoco (10-4) allowed in 6.1IP.

The JetHawks added two more runs in the seventh and eighth for a commanding 7-1 lead. The Sixers did push a run across in the eighth when Yacinich singled to open the frame and eventually scored on Kyle Survance’s sac fly for a 7-2 game. Yacinich had the lone multi-hit game for the Sixers (59-68, 29-28).

The Sixers are off Monday and open a series at Lancaster on Tuesday at 6:35 pm. The contest can be heard live at
