2018 Quakes Set a New Single Season Wins Record
By Andrew Chapman
Sunday’s victory jumps the club past the 2011 Quakes, who finished the year a previous best 80-60. The 81st win solidifies this year’s club as the all-time winningest team in the city’s 26-year history.
During the game, the offense drew a season-high eleven walks and capitalized with a pair of seven-run outbursts to put the contest out of reach.
Rancho’s first big run of the night came in the fourth while leading 1-0. Erik Manoah (2-11) unraveled, walking four and recording just one out before being lifted from the game. In the inning, Jared Walker drove home a pair with a triple, Omar Estevez doubled in two and Carlos Rincon wiped the bases clean with a three-run double. The base hit from Estevez extends him to an active league-best 17-game hitting streak.
Wills Montgomerie enjoyed his strongest outing thus far with the Quakes. The right-hander allowed just one hit, a solo home run to Jordan Zimmerman, while not factoring into the decision over four complete frames.
Ten more men stepped to the plate in the sixth as Rancho blew the game open with another seven-run inning. Cody Thomas drove home Nick Yarnall with a single and Cristian Santana followed by knocking in two more with a double. Hamlet Marte cashed in with a two-run single of his own and came home to score on three wild pitches from Eduardo Rivera, capping a 16-1 lead.
Parker Curry (7-2) pitched two scoreless innings behind Montgomerie, walking three and striking out five while inheriting the win. The 66ers where held to just the one hit until the ninth inning when they scratched across four runs against Sven Schueller.
The Quakes will look for the sweep at Inland Empire on Monday with Dodgers LHP Julio Urias scheduled to start for the Quakes. The 66ers will counter with RHP Simon Mathews. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
