Sopko Strong, Puig 0-for-4 on Rehab
By Andrew Chapman
Lake Elsinore, CA-Quakes’ starting pitcher Andrew Sopko delivered his strongest performance of the season on Tuesday night at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, leading the way in a 6-1 victory for Rancho.
Over six innings, Sopko held the Storm to a single run on two hits while Rancho’s offense backed their starter en route to his second win of the year.
Donovan Casey, Rylan Bannon and Steve Berman strung together consecutive singles to begin the inning and load the bases for Gavin Lux. Storm starting pitcher Reggie Lawson issued a walk to Lux to bring home what would be the game-winning run in Casey, giving the Quakes a 2-1 lead. Cristian Santana capped the fifth with an RBI fielder’s choice, making it 3-1.
The Quakes grew their lead to five runs with an RBI-single from Casey in the eighth and plated the final run in the ninth, when Santana scored on a wild pitch.
Puig finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout and was removed after seven innings. Reports have him joining the Dodgers on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The Quakes have now won three games in a row on the road trip and will look to make it four straight on Wednesday with Dustin May (0-1) on the mound. May will be opposed by southpaw Adrian Morejon for the Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM
