Visalia, CA – Tony Gonsolin, Chris Mathewson and Jason Richman combined to blank Visalia on Saturday night, as the Quakes earned a 3-0 win at Recreation Park in Visalia to end a four-game skid.

Gavin Lux recorded his fourth three-hit game of the week, also scoring a run and driving in a run, helping pace Rancho Cucamonga’s 10-hit attack in what was a strong overall effort for the Quakes in game two of the three-game series.

Lux opened the game with his first of three knocks, then stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw from the catcher. Cristian Santana put Rancho on the board, scoring Lux on an RBI groundout to make it 1-0.

Santana singled to open the fourth and eventually scored on a sac fly off the bat of Donovan Casey, giving the Quakes a 2-0 lead.

Lux drove in the final run in the fifth, as he singled home Saige Jenco, making it a 3-0 game against Visalia starter Riley Smith (1-2).

Gonsolin earned the first out of the fifth inning, but walked two consecutive hitters and was removed in favor of Mathewson after 83 pitches.

Mathewson (1-0) would go on to allow just one hit over 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Richman worked around three hits and a walk over his two innings of work, recording his second save of the year and helping Rancho earn their first shutout of the year.

The Quakes (13-17), now just two games out of first place, will send Dean Kremer (1-1) to the mound on Sunday afternoon. Visalia will counter with right-hander Connor Grey (4-1) with first pitch scheduled for 2:00pm.

On Friday, May 11th, the Quakes return to LoanMart Field for Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, featuring hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches for just one dollar each.
