By Andrew Chapman

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes evened the weekday series with the Storm on Tuesday night behind a shut-down outing from Andrew Sopko and a pair of multi-run innings that sparked the 9-3 victory at LoanMart Field.

Stemming from a pair of shut-out innings from Sopko to open the game, the long-ball came alive early on in the second.

With family members in attendance, Jeren Kendall swung at the first pitch of the inning and clanked a solo home run off of the right-field foul pole. After Connor Wong reached on one of three Storm errors in the inning, Logan Landon drove a two-run homer into the opposite field putting Rancho up 3-0.

Sopko (3-3) cruised through six complete innings on Tuesday, allowing his only run to the Storm in the fourth and finished strong with eight strikeouts and no walks in his third win of the season.

Blowing the game open in the sixth inning, Rancho sent eight hitters to the plate, scoring five runs against Storm reliever Austin Smith.

In the inning, the Quakes produced runs on a wild pitch that scored Wong, a sacrifice fly from Cody Thomas, an RBI-double from Gavin Lux and a two-run home run by Rylan Bannon.

Rancho’s final run of the game was scored in the seventh when Landon drove home Kendall on an infield groundout.

Never trailing against Storm starting pitcher Michel Baez, the three runs scored in the second for the Quakes were enough to hand Baez (1-5) his fifth loss of the season.

Following the win the Quakes improve to six games below the .500 mark at 23-29 on the season, three games out of first place in the South division.
