Michel Baez Sparkles on the Mound for Lake Elsinore

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino were stifled on Tuesday night by the Lake Elsinore Storm who shutout the Sixers 7-0 to open a three-game set at San Manuel Stadium.
The Storm (29-29) got a dazzling six innings of work from 6’8″ right-handed starter Michel Baez who allowed just one hit in his outing. The loss was Inland Empire’s fifth straight loss and fourth consecutive at the hands of the Storm who swept the Sixers at The Diamond over the weekend.
The Storm got on the board in the second against Inland Empire (27-31) when Brad Zunica drilled a two-run homer to right against Sixers starter Jason Alexander (2-4) in the second. It was Zunica’s seventh homer and his third in his last four games against the Sixers.
The Storm made it 3-0 on Edward Olivares‘ RBI single in the third. Baez (2-5) was rolling as the righty from Havana, Cuba retired the first 13 batters he faced until Roberto Baldoquin singled to right against his countryman. Baez got a double-play the next batter; he finished his evening allowing just the one hit and no walks in six frames with eight Ks and faced the minimum of 18 batters in six frames.
The Storm blew it open with four in the seventh against reliver Jonah Wesely highlighted by a two-run single from Buddy Reed and a two-run single from Edward Olivares who finished the game with three hits and three RBI.
The Sixers tallied five hits over the final three innings but stranded seven runners on base and were shutout for the third time in 2018; the blanking was the Storm staff’s third of the year. Jahmai Jones had two hits including a double while Jack Kruger extended his hit-streak to seven games.
