By Andrew Chapman
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After surrendering a lead in the middle innings, the Quakes rallied from behind to extend their franchise-best winning streak to 14 straight games with a 5-4 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks.
Jared Walker supplied the game-winning swing after Rancho lost their early 2-0 advantage.
Trailing 3-2 in the fourth, Cristian Santana and Connor Wong strung together a pair of one-out singles against Lancaster starting pitcher Matt Dennis (6-9). After Logan Landon struck out, Jared Walker stepped to the plate and hammered a 413 foot home run to vault Rancho back in front 5-3.
Quakes starter Leo Crawford entered with a lead in the fifth but was replaced by Ryan Moseley after recording an out and allowing two runners to reach. Moseley (3-2) allowed a run to score to the record of Crawford during the inning but went on to toss a scoreless sixth in the win. Logan Salow and Andre Scrubb covered the final three scoreless innings out of the bullpen and Scrubb recorded his first save as a Quake.
Early on, Cody Thomas put Rancho up 1-0 in the first on his eleventh home run of the season. Connor Wong followed with a solo-shot in the second, his first home run since May 27th to make it 2-zip. Wong finished Monday’s contest 3-for-4 at the plate with the home run and a pair of singles.
Lancaster scored in the third and Crawford surrendered the 2-1 advantage in the fourth on a Max George home run and a Carlos Herrera RBI double. In his second start of the season, the lefty allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out six in the no-decision.
Following the victory the Quakes are now 17-2 over second-half play and hold a six-game lead over the second place JetHawks in the south division.
The Quakes will look to extend their franchise record with a 15th straight win on Tuesday as RHP Tony Gonsolin (3-2) is scheduled to start. Gonsolin will be opposed by Lancaster right-hander Brandon Gold (6-5).
