Cal League Baseball: Storm Defeat JetHawks in a  Season-high 20 hits, Six Home run 14-5 Rout

LANCASTER – The Lake Elsinore Storm used a season-high 20 hits – six of which were home runs – to rout the Lancaster JetHawks 14-5 on Saturday night at The Hangar.

A solo homer in each of the first three innings gave the Storm an early advantage. Michael Gettys (first), Franmil Reyes (second) and Luis Urias (third) each took Lancaster starter Trent Thornton (L, 3-4) deep, the last of which was the first “traditional” professional home run for the 19-year old (he hit an inside-the-parker earlier this season).

A three-run fourth added to the Storm advantage. Four hits – highlighted by Josh VanMeter’s two out, two-RBI double – plated a trio of runs that made it 6-1.

Lancaster scored a pair of runs off of starter Enyel De Los Santos in the bottom of the fifth, but Brandon Alger (W, 2-0) recorded the final out of the frame and went on to hang a zero in the sixth.

Ben Paullus (S, 1) kept the ‘Hawks at bay over the final three frames, but the offense wasn’t done. Reyes started the eighth with his second home run of the game and Trae Santos followed with a double. Jose Ruiz singled home Santos two batters later for an 8-4 Storm lead.

A six-run ninth capped the night. Five hits – including home runs from Javier Guerra and Edwin Moreno – plated six runs and the Storm went on to win 14-5.

The series concludes Sunday evening. Brett Kennedy will oppose Kevin McCanna, First pitch is set for 5:05pm.
