The Eagles are Coming Off a Huge 52-14 Victory over Santa Ana to Clinch their First Ever CIF Southern Sectional Title
Rancho Christian rolled right over undefeated and highly favored Santa Ana last weeko win the school’s first Sectional Division Title. Eagles Head Coach Jim Kunau won his third Title, as he had won two with Orange Lutheran prior to taking over the Rancho Christian Football program in 2014.
“I’m really proud of the team” said Kunau.“They are remarkable young guys who have given everything they have.”
Carter Tredway is the starting quarterback for Rancho Christian. The sophomore has thrown for 1,413 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. His favorite receivers are sophomore Jojo Saatzer, senior Nicholas Alvarez and Jaden Schieberl.
Schieberl is the spark that ignites the Eagles offense. Against Santa Ana, the junior gained 221 yards on the ground, 66 yards on one catch and another 25 after an interception. He scored five touchdowns.
Treadway ended the night completing 7 of 13 passes for 200 yards. Alvarez caught 4 passes for 86 yards, while junior Elijah Campbell hauled in 2 passes,48 yards and ran for 47 more. Sophomore Malosi Napoleon gained 56 yards on 11 carries.
The Eagles have one of the best kickers in the Division in junior Emma Baker. “Ms.Money” is what she is called by teammates for her accuracy and consistency. She nailed a 26 yard field goal and was a perfect 7 for 7 in her PAT attempts last week.
Alvarez, junior Jake Davies, Elijah Campbell, Colton Bulger and Ryan Eaposito anchor the defense for Rancho Christian. The Eagles shut down Santa Ana’s explosive offense last week to win the CIF SS Division 13 title and are getting better every week.
Franklin is 13-1 coming into the Californa State Regionals. Their only loss of the season was to Division 2 Lincoln. Franklin defeated Monroe, Kennedy, Chavez on the way to winning the Division 3 Championship… and sealed the deal with a 27-18 victory over Reseda.
The Panthers are a throwing team and led by quarterback Mario Bobadilla. The senior has thrown for 3,284 yards and 32 touchdowns. His favorite targets are seniors David Telles (53 catches, 1250 yards)and Leonel Santiago (57 catches,887 yards.). Seniors Daniel Cells and Guillermo Cordova are also dangerous receivers. Telles is also their top running back, gaining 868 yards on 107 carries.
Seniors Daniel Rodriquez, Eric Nolasco and junior Justice Kinard anchor the Panther defense. Kinard is the team’s sack leader with 12 and Cells has intercepted an amazing 9 passes this season.
The Panthers have home field advantage. The Eagles are used to being the underdog all season but Rancho Christian must be at the top of their game to advance to the State Finals.
