CIF Football: Temescal Canyon Beats Saddleback Valley Christian 42-31



The Titans Advance to Round 2 of the CIF Southern Section Division 8 Championship Playoffs

Sophomore running back Brandon Clemons ran for 206 yards and scored three touchdowns and Mickey Ibara nailed 2 field goas to lead Temescal Canyon to a 43-31 win over Saddleback Valley Christian Friday night. Clemons started the scoring in the first quarter with a short 1-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion failed and the Titans fell behind 7-6 when senior quarterback Cade Henjum connected with Jack Deavila on a 22-yard TD pass.

Mikey Ibarra put the Titans back on top, nailing a 35-yard Field Goal, making it 9-7 early in the second quarter. The Warriors responded with 2 quick touchdowns to make it 19-9. Temescal Canyon scored again, this time on a 11-yard run by Clemons to narrow Saddleback’s lead to 19-16.The sophomore scored again right before the half ended on a short run to give the Titans a 23-19 lead.

Temescacl Valley out scored the Warriors 19-12 in the second half to win the game 42-31. Titan Quarterback Jarden Gomez completed 10 of his 17 passes for 136 yards. All purpose back Jacob Stepanek caught 6 passes for 65 yards. The senior also ran for two touchdowns and 65 yards. The Titans were also successful at executing two 2-point conversions.

Henjum threw 57 passes for the Warriors, completing 35 of them for 500 yards and 3 touchdowns. Deavila caught 10 passes for 168 yards and 2 scores. Marc Audet grabbed 10 balls for 133 yards and John House hauled in 6 passes for 128 yards. Nolan Purdy only caught 2 passes, but one was a touchdown.

Temescal Canyon will be home ext Friday to tale on Dos Lugo. The Conquistadors are 9-2 and are the Mt. Baldy League Champions. They crushed Moreno Valley 42-14 in the opening round.
