Eagles Head Coach Jim Kunau won his third Title, he had won two with Orange Lutheran before taking over the Rancho Christian Football program in 2014.

I’m really proud of the team” said Kunau.“They are remarkable young guys who have given everything they have.”thumbnail_rancho-football-2016-12-03_0185

Santa Ana led just once in the game. Senior Jorge Briseno broke through the Eagles defense for a 35 yard touchdown run and it was 7-0. Enter Rancho Christian’s Jaden Schieberl. The junior scored his first touchdown of the night when he hooked up with quarterback Carter Treadway for a 66 yard pass to tie it all up. He would harass the Saints all night long.

The offense rolled past the Saints and the score was 24-7 at the half. The Eagles would score 24 unanswered points before scoring again in the third quarter to make it 31-14…which seemed to motivate Rancho Christian to put more points on the board.

The Eagles exploded for 21 more points and never looked back as their defense dominated an overwhelmed Saints offense. Final score, Eagles 52, Saints 14.

Schieberl was the spark that ignited the Eagles. The junior gained 221 yards on the ground, 66 yards on 1 catch and another 25 after an interception. He scored five touchdowns. Treadway ended the night completing 7 of 13 passes for 200 yards. Senior Nicholas Alvarez caught 4 passes for 86 yards, while junior Elijah Campbell hauled in 2 passes,48 yards and ran for 47 more. Sophomore Malosi Napoleon gained 56 yards on 11 carries. In addition to her field goal, Baker was a perfect 7 for 7 on her PAT attempts for 10 points.rancho-football-2016-12-03_0193

The defense shined as the Eagles held the Saints to 12 first downs against a team that had scored 66 points a week earlier for their 13th victory. Schieberl led the team with 10 tackles. Junior Garrett Opp, Alvarez and Campbell each had a sack in the victory. Opp, Napolean and sophomore JoJo Saatzer also recovered fumbles for the Eagles.thumbnail_rancho-football-2016-12-03_0347
