CIF SS Water Polo: San Juan Hills Holds Off Murrieta Mesa’s Fourth Period Rally to Win 10-9

The Rams Magical Season ends in the CIF Souhern Section Quarterfinal Match

15027393_708913222594754_9162876226114605995_nMurrieta Mesa’s season came to a painful end Saturday in the Division 5 CIF Souhern Section Quarterfinal playoff game against San Juan Hills. The Rams had fallen behind 6-9 in the third period after being tied at the half.15027855_708907495928660_4390274191593240106_n

Murrieta Mesa came out fighting in the final period, out-scoring the Stallions 3 goals to 1 ut ended up a goal short. San Juan Hills won the game 10-9 and advanced to take on Corona in the semifinal match Wednesday.

San Juan was a tough team. The boys played a great game, we just had some missed opportunities and couldn’t put the ball away” said Rams Coach Audra Woods. “This has been the best season in Mesa water polo history. This was an incredible group of boys and it was a pleasure coaching them. We are also so grateful for the support of the students and staff of Mesa. Sophomore Cameron Bentley led the Rams with 4 goals. Junior Clay Solorza put 2 goals in the net while seniors Zane Bentley, Noah Cicciarelli Glen Wagner each scored a goal against San Juan, Senior Nathan Lavigne had 8 saves in goal.14947755_708912545928155_2396581630322530662_n

In their first ever appearance in the CIF Southern Section Championship Playoffs, the Rams had 2 post season victories. They beat Beaumont 16-11 in the Division 5 Playoff opener, then went on to defeat Chadwick 10-8 in round 12. The Rams finish the season with a overall record of 28-8 and placed third in the Southwestern League.
