The CSUSB Coyotes are headed back to the CCAA Championship for the second-straight season after beating CSU Monterey Bay 11-0 on Saturday at CSUMB. The Yotes had dropped game one in the day to Sonoma State, 0-9, both games in five innings.

Against the Otters, the Yotes jumped ahead in the first on a double from Dominique Walker, but the game was broken open in the third with a three-run pinch-hit home run from Morgan Parsons. Sydney Kreimann singled to score two in the fifth and Claudia Lopez hit her second home run of the tournament to plate two and make it 11-0 later in the inning.

The Yotes scored 11 runs on 11 hits and Kendra O’Cull and Bailey Powell combined to shutout the Otters allowing just four hits between them. Morgan Ratliff, Walker, and Lopez each had two hits.

In the first game of the day, the Yotes were never able to get the offense going, but the game was zeros into the fifth, when an inning simply got away from them.

“We were not going to let one loss take us down,” shortstop Jamiana Gateb said. “This team has a lot of fight in it.”

The Yotes will get another chance at Sonoma State at 10 am today. They will need to beat the Seawolves twice to claim the championship. Live links are on
