College Volleyball: No. 1 Ranked Cal State San Bernardino Beats Cal Poly Pomona in Straight Sets


Next Up for the Coyotes is CSU Dominguez Hills on Friday

The No. 1 CSUSB Coyotes kept it rolling on Tuesday night, with an impressive 3-0 win at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Yotes started strong with a 25-10 set one win, then took set two 25-20 and set three 25-19. The Coyotes hit .433 and held CPP to .091, while serving five aces, led by Vista Murrieta alum Marlee Nunley with two.

Alexis Cardoza was unstoppable, recording 19 kills while hitting .545, as she had just a single error in 33 attempts. Sascha Dominique had no errors in 11 attempts, and eight ended in kills.

Moira Murphy had a single error in 19 attempts and had eight kills as well. The Yotes also led in blocks 9-2, with Dominique getting six and Mikaela Grove blocking five.

“This was a great CCAA road victory for us tonight,” CSUSB head coach Kim Cherniss said. “I was proud of the team being prepared after just one practice before tonight’s match. Moira, Sascha, and Alexis were really efficient offensively tonight. Defensively, Asia Clarke was relentless in the middle back, digging everything. Also Asia and Leilia To’amalatai were really tough at the service line tonight.”

The win began a busy week for the Coyotes, who head back home for the weekend beginning with CSU Dominguez Hills at 7 pm on Friday. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com
