El Centro: Three Sex Offenders Arrested at the Border over the Weekend

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to El Centro Sector arrested three convicted sex offenders over the weekend.

Agents assigned to the Calexico station arrested one of those men who had illegally entered the United States 25 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry.

Record checks revealed one of the men, identified as Edgar Giovanni Garcia-Rodriguez, is a 19-year-old Mexican national. He was arrested by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on March 28, 2014 for and currently has an outstanding warrant for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under the age of 14.

The other man who also entered illegally was arrested 12 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry.

Record checks revealed that the man, identified as Ricard Torrez-Alvarez, a 39-year-old Mexican national, is a convicted sex offender. He was convicted on July 31, 2016 in the State of California for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child for which he received one-year prison time and a fine.

Additionally, agents assigned to the Indio station arrested a man near Bombay Beach Friday evening.

Record checks revealed that the man, identified as Odilfido Guerra-Morales, a 55-year-old Honduran national, is a previously deported sex offender. He was convicted in the state of California on Dec. 22, 2015 for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under the age of 14 for which he was sentenced to three years in prison.

All three men will be held pending further criminal prosecution. Charges and allegations contained in criminal complaints are merely accusations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

“These arrests are a testament to the vital role that the men and women of the El Centro Sector play in safeguarding our nation’s borders,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez.
