The Golden Bears have Won their First 2 Games in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Baseball Playoffs
Temecula Valley has won their first 2 games of the tournament. They beat Millikan High School 3-0 in their wild-card game Wednesday and then shocked the number 2 seed San Dimas by trouncing them 5-1 Friday.
The Golden Bears wasted no time on Friday. Temecula scored a run in the first inning, two more in fourth and twice again in their final at bat. San Dimas’ only run came in the bottom of the seventh against Golden Bear starter Ethan Van scoy.
The sophomore left-hander had a four-hitter with two outs in the seventh when Coach Darric Merrell pulled the plug. He brought in Aiden Stuart to get the final out of the game. “Our sophomore lefty was able to jump ahead,” said Merrell. “He’s done that the last two months. It’s been amazing the teams he has shut down. He was throwing strikes and mixing all three pitches.”
Cole Urman had 2 RBIs, Ryan Page and Chris McKinney each drove in one for Temecula Valley. Urman and McKinney both doubled twice and the Bears. Urman, Page, Woody Hadeen, Christopher Paciolla, Nolan George and Aidan Stuart scored for Temecula.
The Golden Bears will now face Villa Park tomorrow at home in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Baseball Playoffs. The Spartans were the North Hills league Champions and have a record of 15-14. Villa Park slipped past Corona del Mar in a 11-10 nail-biter Friday.
Four other local teams will be playing in round 2 action. In Division 2, Temescal Canyon will be home against Oaks Charter. In Division 3, Paloma Valley hosts Yorba Linda while Great Oak is on the road to Long Beach to face Poly. Calvary Murrieta will be home to play Adelanto in Division 6.
