HS Baseball: Chaparral, Paloma Valley, Great Oak Ranked in the CIF Southern Section Division Polls

Only Three Local Teams were Mentioned in this Week’s Top 10 Polls

Chaparral and Paloma Valley were ranked first and second again in this week’s CIF Southern Section Top 10 Divisional Polls. One other local team, Division Three’s Great Oak made the list.

Chaparral is ranked number 1 in Division 3. The red hot Pumas are off to a fast start this season. Chaparral is undefeated and has an overall record of 9-0. The Pumas crushed Murrieta Mesa 11-2 Saturday in Southwestern league play.

Senior pitcher Andrew Mosiello won his fourth game. Junior Hunter Messere and senior Trevor Hinkel hit home runs while senior Tyler Todd drove in 3 runs.

Ranked second in the Division is Paloma Valley. The Wildcats are solid and have put together a 8-1 record so far this season. They are tied with Heritage with a 3-1 record in Ivy league play. They defeated JW North last week.

Senior Drew Rico pitched the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday and Sophomore Caleb Anderson beat the Huskies 3-2 Thursday.

In Division 3,Great Oak climbed into the top 10 this week. Ranked 12th last week they are number 9 now. The Wolfpack are 8-1-1 overall and are 1-1 in league. The Wolfpack swept a double header from Norco Saturday.

Senior Zach Arnold hit a home run and senior Michael Shanahan pitched Great Oak past the Cougars 9-1 in the first game. In the second game, Arnold and Cameron Mabee each drove in 2 runs and junior Ian Nolan came in relief to win it 6-3.

Temescal Canyon dropped out of the Top 10 in Division 2.
