When a baseball team performs basically the same way game after game, you could say they are stuck in a rut. But when their performance level is as high as Rancho Christian’s has been for the last 13 games, it would be better stated that the Eagles have found their groove.
Friday afternoon on their home field, The Eagles won their ninth straight game and their 12th win in the last 13 starts. This time Rancho used the same powerful combination of great pitching, strong defense , good base running and very hot bats to put away the Orange Glen Patriots 13-1.
Senior left hander Joey Hauck got his first start of the season and did everything right. His fastball was popping, his curve ball was breaking sharply, and his pick-off move had The Patriots totally off balance. The result was limiting Orange Glen to just one hit that came in the fifth and final inning and with 2 infield outs produced the Patriots only run.
By that time Rancho had put 13 runs on the board for the second night in a row utilizing 11 hits , 5 walks and 5 hit batters.
Rancho took a 2-0 lead in the first when Hauck led off, and was hit by the pitcher. He then stole second and third, then scored when Taylor Tosches laid down a perfect bunt single. Tosches scored on a long double to center by Colton Bulger.
Rancho took a 6-0 lead when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the second inning. Joel Pruitt drove in Elijah Goodwin with an infield out. Tosches singled and drove in Hauck who had singled and stole second. Carter Treadway singled driving in both Tosches and Trevor Jones. Jones had been hit by the pitcher and had also stolen second before Treadway’s timely hit.
The Eagles flew out of site in the bottom of the third inning, when they scored 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. The sad story for Orange Glen was all the runs were scored with 2 outs. Goodwin and Pruitt started the inning both grounding out. The PATRIOTS COULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE INNING AND STILL IN THE GAME but Danny Meraz reached on an error.
Then the Eagles took flight- Hauck doubled. Tosches walked. Trevor Jones doubled in two runs and Carter Treadway walked. Bulger singled in a run ,his third hit of the day.Jo Jo Saatzer lined a double scoring Bulger. Elijah Goodwin singled sharply driving in Saatzer. When the clouds cleared Rancho had 13 runs. They also had their 14th win of the season.
Rancho will try to make it number 15 when they host the Nuview Bridge Knights on Tuesday the 24th at 3:30 pm.
