HS Baseball: Great Oak Beats La Canada 7-0 to Win The CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship

Senior Pitcher Cameron Mabee Throws a One Hit Shutout to Win it for the Wolfpack

Great Oak’s Cameron Mabee dazzled on the mound Saturday as the senior was dominate in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship game against La Canada. Mabee pitched a perfect game into the sixth inning when Zach Feehan broke up his no hitter with a single.

Great Oak scored all 7 runs in the fourth inning and Mabee was also a force on offense. He doubled home two runs while senior Josh Paino and juniors Jacob Fisher and Luke Jepsen knocked in one each in the inning. Jepson had 3 hits in the contest and had two stolen bases.

“I was just focused on if they don’t want to get me out, I’ll just hit it,” said Mabee. “I kept thinking if I’m not going to get out, God has a plan for me to get a hit.”

It was Great Oak’s first CIF Southern Section Championship in the school’s history. The Wolfpack came close in 2006 when they lost the Division 5 title game.

“This is a great group of kids who worked hard,”said Great Oak coach Eric Morton. “When the seniors were sophomores and the juniors were freshmen, I saw something special in them. The framework was there, and they have been clutch this season.”
