HS Baseball: Great Oak Splits Double Header with Norco to Open the Season

The Wolfpack Takes the Opener 4-1, the Cougars Win the Second Game 5-1

Great Oak opened the 2017 Baseball season Saturday as the Wolfpack split a double header with Norco. Great Oak took the opener 4-1 but the Cougar bats came alive in the second game as Norco won 5-1.





Senior Trent Topping struck out 6 over six innings, gave up an unearned run and won the first game of the season for the Wolfpack. Topping started the 7th and walked the leadoff batter.

Kyle Peppler and Cameron Mabee came in to pitch and finish off the seventh inning for Great Oak, but not before the Cougars scored their only run on a two out error by Tyler Jorgensen.

The Wolfpack scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning on RBIs by Kyle Bowser and Carson Seymore, who doubled. Alex Stuft, Owen Janes, Bowser and Seymore all scored in the inning.




The Norco bats came alive in game 2 of the double header. The Cougars scored three in the fourth and a run each in the sixth and seventh. Carson Seymore took the loss for Great Oak.

Everhett Hazelwood pitched 4 innings and earned the victory for Norco, Kevin Santana came in to finish, gave up a run and picked up the save.

Aaron Ameduri went 1-for-2 and knocked in two runs for Norco, Colby Simms doubled and scored twice, Garrett Irvin and Claton Owens each had a RBI. The Cougars also had 4 stolen bases.

Nick Charfauros scored the Wolfpack’s only run of the game in the seventh as Kyle Bowser racked up another RBI for the day.

Great Oak will play Santa Fe Christian on Friday in the opening round of the Pirate Classic Baseball Tournament. The Wolfpack took second place last season and are looking to bring back the Championship this year.

Norco plays Hillcrest on Wednesday in the Brian Hamilton Tournament.
