Brant Voth Hits a 2 Run Home Run as the Rams Beat Heritage 4-2 Monday to Advance to the Championship Game
Murrieta Mesa won its third game of the Tahquitz Titan Spring Classic Tournament Monday as they defeated Heritage 4-2. The Rams slipped past West Valley 6-5 and then defeated La Sierra 5-2 when the tournament opened on Saturday. They advance to the Championship game today against host Tahquitz.
Heritage took a 2-0 lead as Evan Valencia singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Thomas Parker in the first inning. Guillermo Landeros scored for the Patriots in the second before Mesa starting pitcher Antonio Carreon settled into a rhythm and shut down Heritage.
Carreon got the win, scattering seven hits over five innings, striking out six. Jacob Marquardt threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Marquardt recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Murrieta.
The Rams scored 3 runs runs in the fourth inning and pulled away for good. Gabriel Ponce de Leon doubled in a run on before Brant Voth homered to make it a 3-2 game. Cameron Skinner knocked in the fourth and final Ram run in the fifth inning. Ryan Hidalgo scored twice for Murrieta Mesa.
James Duran was saddled with the loss for Heritage. He surrendered four runs on eight hits over four innings and struck out two. Gabriel Avila came in to throw three innings out of the bullpen.
The Rams will play Tahquitz in the Titan Spring Classic Tournament Championship Game today. The Titans beat Lakeside Saturday, lost to Rancho Verde Monday before rebounding to defeat Monrovia 8-3 yesterday.
