HS Baseball: Paloma Valley Beats Elsinore Twice Last Week


Trevor Bateson Threw a Complete Game No Hitter on Wednesday

Paloma Valley beat Elsinore twice last week to improve to 6-5 and moved into third place in the Sunbelt league. The Wildcats won the first game Wednesday as they shut out and defeated Elsinore 6-0. In Fridays game, Paloma pounded Elsinore 8-1.

On Wednesday, was dominant on the mound. The Sunbelt league strike out leader threw a complete game no hitter against the Tigers. He striking out 3. It was a pitcher dual through 6 innings until Paloma’s offense broke through for 5 runs.

Travis Shaff-Brown and Brandon Reyes both drove in 2 runs for the Wildcats. JJ Peterson and Jake Umathum each had an RBI.

Jacob Ruggles threw a complete game for Elsinore and ended up with the loss.

Fridays game Paloma Valley’s Jake Umatham threw a strong 4 innings with 8 strike outs to lead the Wildcats to a 8-1 victory over Elsinore. Cade Swenson, Dallas Frederick and Drew Rico pitched an inning of relief each. Rico was unhittable in the 7th striking as he out the side.

Jake Umatham led the hitting attack for the Wildcats going 2 for 3 with a triple at the plate with 2 RBIs. Chase Castor and Jordan Daniles both went 2 for 3. Daniles also drove in a run.

Michael Lipold was the losing pitcher for Elsinore. Connor Planchon pitched 4 innings of the relief.

Paloma Valley will play 2 games against Perris next week before facing Heritage who is tied for first place in the Sunbelt league with Temescal Canyon. The Tigers play Lakeside.
