HS Baseball: Rancho Christian Races to Eighth Straight Win


The Eagles Defeat Santa Rosa Rangers 13-2

The Rancho Christian Eagles combined robust hitting, and timely defensive plays with strong , highly efficient pitching to post their eight straight win and 11 th victory in their last 12 outings. Rancho put multiple runs on the board in every inning but the fifth, and easily outscored their South Valley league opponents -The Santa Rosa Academy Rangers 13-2.

As it has done all year Rancho’s bats heated up early. In the first Taylor Tosches lined a single and then scored on a long double in the gap by Trevor Jones. Jones came home on a single by Colton Bulger, his first of a 3 hit night. Rancho led 2-0 after 1 inning.

Rancho expanded the lead after 2 innings, when they loaded the bases on two walks, a hit batter and a fielder’s choice. Trevor Jones emptied the bases with his second long double, making the score 5-0.

Rancho kept the pressure on in the 3rd inning taking a 6-0 lead on a double by Bulger and singles by Jo Jo Saatzer and Elijah Goodwin.

Santa Rosa got on the board in the 3rd with their first run. Sophomore right hander Cole Guerin got the start for Rancho and set down the first six Ranger hitters before 2 infield errors, a single, and a fielder’s choice pushed one across for the Rangers.

In the top of the fourth inning, Rancho erased all hope for a Ranger comeback when they scored 5 more runs on 6 hits. Tosches singled, Jones was hit by the pitch, Treadway singled loading the bases with no outs. Bulger singled driving in Tosches. Saatzer singled driving in Jones, bases still loaded. Goodwin took one for the team driving in Treadway. Danny Meraz drove in the last 2 runs of the inning, making the score 11-1 .

Santa Rosa scored their final run in the fourth on a single, a passed ball and 2 infield outs. That made the score 11-2 after 4 innings, and would be as close as the Rangers got.

Rancho scored 2 more in the top of the sixth to run the score to the final count of 13-2

Guerin pitched a complete game going six innings, scattering 6 singles, walking one and striking out 3 Ranger hitters. He was highly effective, throwing only 68 pitches, including 41 strikes. Guerin picked up his second win of the season to go along with 2 saves.

Rancho entertains Orange Glen on Friday in a makeup contest.
