HS Baseball: Rancho Christian Rolls Over Calvary Murrieta 12-1

Trevor Jones Pitches a 4 Hitter  Striking out 8…and Hits a Home Run

By Lynn Guerin

Trevor Jones performed his best Shohei Ohtani imitation Tuesday afternoon at Harveston Park. The Rancho Christian senior right hander pitched a complete game 7 inning 4 hitter, struck out 8 batters and drove a long homerun over the left field fence with Taylor Tosches on board.

The homerun was part of a five run-6 hit Rancho rally in third inning, that combined with a 4 run-3 hit rally in the second inning, gave Rancho a 9-1 lead and put the game out of reach early for Calvary Murrieta.

The Eagles banged out 12 base hits to go along with 8 walks. Colton Bulger, Jo Jo Saatzer, Taylor Tosches, and Carter Treadway each had 2 hits. Treadway reached base 5 times including 3 walks. Jones and Tosches each had 3 RBI’S.

Rancho’s defense was solid, even spectacular at times. Jo Jo Saatzer stopped any Calvary momentum in the second inning with a diving grab of a screaming liner and tossed a tumbling relay to second base for a force out. That play brought the crowd on both sides to its feet. Elijah Goodwin and Joey Hauck also made sparkling plays in the field to keep Calvary in check.

Jones picked up his fifth win of the season against one loss. Rancho has reeled off 7 straight wins, improving its overall record to 12 wins and 3 losses.

Rancho Christian travels to Santa Rosa Academy Thursday and entertains Orange Glen on Friday .
