Cole Urman Hits a Home Run & Devon Hawks Drove in 4 Runs for the Golden Bears
Temecula Valley won it’s Southwestern League Opener on the road 7-3 over Murrieta Mesa. The Golden Bears are looking to improve on last year’s fourth place finish last season. Murrieta gave up 4 huge runs in the sixth inning which doomed the Rams.
The Rams scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead. Temecula tied it all up in the second and went ahead by a run in the fifth. A four run sixth inning put the game away for the Bears. Temecula scored an insurance run in the seventh and the Rams put two across in the final frame.
Junior Cole Urman went 2 for 3 at the plate and hit a homerun while driving in 2. Junior Devon Hawks got hits and drove in 4 runs for Temecula. Senior Gabe Alvarez went 2 for 4 and Andrew Torres got a hit and 2 RBI’s.
Ethan Clough picked up his first win the season against Murrieta Mesa. The senior pitched 6 innings giving up one run on 4 hits while striking out 7. Senior Carson Frazier worked an inning of releif and gave up 2 runs.
Junior Anthony Salcedo and senior Gabriel Ponce de Leon both doubled and had an RBI for Murrieta Mesa. Senior Aaron Torres also drove in a run for the Rams.
Antonio Carreon was the loser for Murrieta Mesa. The senior gave up 6 runs on 8 hits over 5.2 innings. He had 4 strikeouts. Junior Sebastian Cueva came in and threw an inning of releif and gave up a run.
In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Valley beat Vista Murrieta 2-0 on Thursday.
