HS Baseball: Temecula Valley Beats Valley View 6-2 in the Opening Round of the CIF SS Division 3 Championship Playoffs


Ethan Clough, Max Rangel & Carson Frazier Combine to Stop the Eagle Offense

Southwestern league Champion Temecula Valley cruised to a 6-2 opening round victory in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship Playoffs Friday. Golden Bears starter Ethan Clough limited the Eagles to just 2 runs on 4 hits over four innings. The senior also had six strikeouts.

Seniors Max Rangel and Carson Frazier came in to pitch scoreless relief for the Golden Bears as they advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Temecula Valley will next face La Salle on Tuesday.

Valley View scored a run in the second inning. They would score again in the fifth when Rangel came in to squash the rally. Rangel would end up throwing for 1.2 innings before being relieved by Frazier who got the save.

The Golden Bears scored a run in the second, third and fourth inning. They put 2 on the board in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth.

Senior Noah Ruden went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in 2 runs for Temecula. Junior Devon Hawks was 3 for 4 with a triple and RBI. Senior Andrew Torres and Clough also drove in a run each. Senior Blake Dickerson doubled and scored for the Golden Bears.

In other CIF Southern Section Playoff action, Vista Murrieta lost to Huntington Beach 9-1 in Division 1. Murrieta Valley edged Millikin 3-1 in Division 2, Linfield Christian fell to San Dimas 10-0 while Temescal Canyon beat Garden Grove 6-1 in Division 3.

Heritage crushed Alta Loma 15-2 in Division 4 and Rancho Christian got past Oxford Academy 2-0 in Division 5. Santa Rosa Academy lost 4-0 to Pomona in Division 6.Photos courtesy of Alyson Gonzalez

The Golden Bears will face La Salle in round 2 of the playoffs. The Lancers have an overall record of 15-10 and beat Charter Oak 5-0 in the opening round.
