HS Baseball: Temecula Valley Clinches the Southwestern League Championship with a 10-3 Victory over Chaparral

Max Rangel Throws a One Hitter Through 5 Innings as the Golden Bears Cruise to the Title

Temecula Valley clinched the 2018 Southwestern League Championship Tuesday with a convinging 10-3 victory over Chaparral. The Golden Bears last won the Southwestern league Title in 2013 under Coach Tony Nobiensky who has moved on to Rancho Christian. This was new coach Darric Merrell’s first year at the helm of the Golden Bears Baseball program.

Senior Max Rangel the CSU San Bernardino Commit was on the mound and got the win for the Golden Bears. Rangel went 5 innings and gave up just one hit.

Senior Noah Ruden went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI. He also scored a run. Senior Nic Cutka drove in 2 runs and fellow senior Blake Dickerson had a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Junior Gant Rayfield stole a base and drove in a run for the Golden Bears.

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Valley edged Murrieta Mesa 2-1 to claim second place. Great Oak topped Vista Murrieta 5-2.
