HS Baseball: Temecula Valley Crushes Great Oak 9-1

The Golden Bears in Command of the Southwestern League Title Race with 6 Games to Go

Temecula Valley cruised to their eighth consecutive victory in the Southwestern league Tuesday afternoon as they crushed rival Great Oak 9-1. The Golden Bears improved to an amazing 20-2 overall this season. There are six games remaining in the regular season.

Senior Ethan Clough was almost perfect on the mound. The Long Beach State Commit pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 5. His only bad pitch was to sophomore Martin Castillo who hit a home run in the third inning for Great Oak

Seniors Sean Fields and Jacob Gonzalez each came in to pitch an inning each of scoreless relief.

Temecula scored a run in the second, two more in the third and put it away in the fourth with 5 runs. The Golden Bears scored again in the final frame.

The Golden Bears were led offensively by seniors Gabe Alvarez and Chris Burke. Alvarez went 2 for-3 drove in a run and scored twice. Burke also had 2 hits and scored. Junior Devon Hawks scored 3 runs, had 2 hits for the Golden Bears and drove in another.

Senior Peyton Maple took the loss for the Wolfpack. Senior Jacob Vasquez, junior Isaac Vasquez and sophomore Ethan Wayer also pitched for Great Oak.

In other Southwestern league action, Vista Murrieta beat Murrieta Mesa 10-6 and Murrieta Valley slipped past Chaparral 4-2.

Temecula faces the Nighthawks on Tuesday as Southwestern league action continues. Great Oak will lock horns with Vista Murrieta.
