HS Baseball: Temecula Valley Edges Past Murrieta Valley 4-3 to Solidify it’s Lead in the Southwestern League

Ethan Clough Strikes out 14 while Throwing a 3 Hitter at the Nighthawks

The second place  Nighthawks proved to be tough opponents this week. Temecula Valley edged past Murrieta Valley 4-3 in a crucial game Thursday. The victory helped the Golden Bears take a 2.5 game lead in the Southwestern league with just 5 games to play. They also squashed MV’s hopes of beating TVHS and sharing first place with the Golden Bears. 

Ethan Clough was the winning pitcher for Temecula. The Long Beach State commit struck out 14 batters while allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits. Clough also singled and scored for the Golden Bears.

Second baseman Devon Hawks and shortstop Andrew Torres delivered the pop to the Bears offense Thursday. Hawks and Torres each drove in 2 runs and scored one each in the 4 run second inning.

The Nighthawks battled back, as Corey Sanchez had 2 RBIs in the top of the fifth inning. Clough toughened up and shut down Murrieta Valley for the remainder of the game.

Drew D’Ambra was the losing pitcher for MV. The senior went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. He had 3 strike outs.

Temecula Valley improved to 21-3 with the win. The Golden Bears will face rival Vista Murrieta for 2 games and then play 2 against Chaparral. Murrieta Valley has 2 games with Great Oak and 3 against Murrieta Mesa left.
