The Lions Played Great Defense & were Led by Seniors Sydney Moran and Devyn Cope
Linfield Christian jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first period and never relinquished the lead as the Lions crushed Kaiser 52-36 in last night’s 2019 CIF Southern Section quarterfinal game. The number one seeded Lions improved to 22-3 and will travel to San Pedro on Friday to face Mary Star of the Sea in the Semifinals.
Linfeild’s defense shined Wednesday night as their full-court pressure forced the Cats offense to implode. Seniors Sydney Moran and Devyn Cope led the Lions offense scoring 19 and 17 points as Linfield proved too much for Kaiser.
With the score 23-21 at the half, the Lions took control of the game. The Lions defense continued to shut down Kaiser’s offense. Linfield Christian outscored the Cats 17-8 in the third period and put the game away with a 12-7 performance in the final period.
“I tell the girls, even the best shooters, even Stephen Curry doesn’t make all his shots,” said Linfield Christian coach Derrick O’Neil. “But we can always play tough defense. That’s what we hang our hats on.”
Sydney Moran led the Lions with 19 points. She also had 5 assists and six steals. Devyn Cope scored 17 points, 9 at the charity stripe and grabbed 10 rebounds. Sophomore Keslyn Henson added 11 points.
Junior Audree Cook scored 3 points for the Lions. Senior Skylarr Little grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 2 points.
Linfield Christian will travel Friday to face Mary Star in the CIF Division 5AA Semifinals. The Stars have beaten Eastside Christian, Rancho Christian and Mesa Grande Academy to get to the semifinals. Game time is 7pm.
