HS Basketball: Murrieta Mesa Slips Past Vista Murrieta 55-49 and into First Place in the Southwestern League

The Rams Use a Big 20 Point Second Period to Beat the Broncos

Murrieta Mesa slipped past Vista Murrieta 55-49 Tuesday night and into first place in the Southwestern League. The Rams are now a full game ahead of Temecula Valley and Great Oak in the race for the Title.

Vista Murrieta took a 12-10 lead over Murrieta Mesa in the first period. The Rams exploded for 20 points while holding the broncos to 8 in the second period to take a 10 point lead at the half, 30-20. Vista Murrieta could not overcome the deficit and fell 55-49.

Shamar Wright led the Rams with 13 points. Ryan Lynton added 9 more and Gio Sanders had 7 points and led the team with 9 rebounds and had 4 assists. Anthony Salas scored 6 points while Lamar Wright scored 5.

Vista Murrieta’s Trevon Ridley and Makai Riley led the Broncos with 9 points each. Kyle Greeley added 8 points while Brendon Newble and Anthony Smith scored 6 apiece.

In other Southwestern league action, Great Oak beat Temecula Valley 83-73 and Murrieta Valley slipped past Chaparral 55-51.

The Wolfpack will face off against the Rams on Friday night with the league Title on the line. Temecula Valley will play Murrieta Valley and Vista Murrieta will tackle Chaparral. .
