HS Basketball: The Southwestern & Sunbelt Leagues Unite to to Fight Cancer this Week


Vista Murrieta Coach Andy Rucker Spearheads The Coaches Verses Cancer Program in the Temecula Valley

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Vista Murrieta Boys Basketball Head Coach Andy Rucker started the program in memory of his mother, who passed away from Cancer. This week will mark the 5th annual Coaches vs Cancer Event for the Southwestern league.

Southwestern League schools will play their Coaches vs Cancer games on Friday, January 27. The two Sunbelt league teams involved will play on Thursday, January 26. Temecula Youth Basketball and Murrieta Youth Basketball will show support on Saturday, January 28.

Over the past 4 years, the teams have been able to donate close to $30,000. This year should be their biggest donation to date as more teams on are on board and have been able to secure a sponsor for the event.

Coach Rucker is hoping to raise over $8,000, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the American Cancer Society.
