HS Basketball: Temecula Valley Wins the So Cal Classic Girls Tournament Championship

The Temecula Valley Girls Basketball team started the 2017-18 season by winning the So Cal Classic Girls Tournament. The Golden Bears dropped the first game to Perris by a basket 42-40 but came back to win three in a row to capture the tournament Championship.

Temecula Valley defeated Mesa Grande Academy by a score of 49–41 in the second game of the tournament. Temecula Prep was the next victim, who fell 68 – 12 to the Golden Bears. In the Championship game, Temecula ran all over Arrowhead Christian and crushed the Eagles 47–26.

Senior Bella Pena and junior Anastasia Navarro spearheaded the Golden Bear attack. Both girls were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

“I am so proud of our girls. We have really been working hard in the preseason and it is paying off said Temecula Valley Coach Felicia Simon. “We actually started changing the culture of our program this past summer. We still have a long way to go to be ready for our competitive league.. but it appears that we are headed in the right direction”.

The Golden Bears will have their home opener on Tuesday , December 5. The game is called “Battle of the Block” as Temecula Valley will play host to neighboring Linfield Christian . The Lions have struggled since their opening game and find themselves with a record of 1-3.
