Vista Murrieta’s Natalia Willis Selected MVP of the Girl’s Game & King’s DuWan Franklin Voted MVP’s of the Boys
An exciting evening of High School basketball was on display Friday night at the 2019 Desert Valley All-Star Classic. The Girls game was a dramatic, well played 78-74 victory for Elsinore coach Romeo Galbreath’s team. The Boy’s team, led by Murrieta Valley coach Brian Wethers put on an astonishing, impressive scoring display that kept the packed crowd enthralled.
In the first game, Vista Murrieta’s Natalia Willis earned MVP honors as she scored a game-high 20 points. Willis got red hot in the second half and scored 17 points as she led her team to victory. Victoria Farris of Great Oak, Patriot’s Jessica Snyder and Bronco teammate Jazmine Acedo all scored 11 points for the winning team.
Acedo also grabbed nine rebounds and was clutch in the final minutes. Heritage’s Kama Taylor had 8 points while Cynnadie Whatley of Perris and Jurupa Valley’s Abigal Guerrero scored 5 points apiece.
Jaden Randall scored 14 points, hauled in 13 rebounds and had four blocks for Norco Coach Kim Kirkland’s losing team. Mariah Sanchez of Hemet added 12 points, Linfield Christian’s Sydney Morean 9, Anna Trede of Cal Lutheran 8, Moreno Valley Alvia Manning 6 and both Norco’s Caroline Ruiz and Jurupa Valley’s Kiara Warhop scored 5 points each.
The Boy’s contest was a scoring extravaganza. King’s DuWan Franklin led coach Brian Wethers’ team to an amazing 125-93 victory. Franklin scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds in the first half and would end the game with a team-high 23 points. By the end of the game, Franklin was setting up teammates with astonishing assists that excited the crowd.
Murreta Mesa’s Devine Fortune added 14 for Team Wethers. Damario Willard of Paloma Valley scored 13 points, Orange Vista’s Isiah Shirley 11 while Vista Murrieta’s Treyvon Ridley and Centennial’s Allan McBride each scored 10 points. Murrieta Valley’s Italian Import, Niccolo Giulietti had nine rebounds and 5 points.
Adrian Contreras of Orange Vista scored 26 points to lead the team coached by El Davis from Orange Vista. Perris’ Isaiah Williams was next with 14 points, Patriot’s Sean Brannon had 10 points and Tej Johnson of Great Oak who won the Slam Dunk contest added 9 points.
Elsinore’s Steven Ramirez and Temecula Valley’s Kryztian Walton each grabbed eight rebounds.
