HS Boys Basketball: First Round of the CIF Southern Section Playoffs begins Wednesday, February 14


11 Local Teams Will Compete for 11 CIF Crowns this Year

The first round of the CIF Southern Section Boys Championship Basketball Playoffs are set to begin on Wednesday, February 14th at 7 pm. This year’s tournament has 11 local teams competing for 11 CIF Crowns.

Rancho Christian has been selected to compete n the Elite Open Division. Only the top 8 teams in Southern California have been invited into this exclusive bracket.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 26-2 and were ranked first in the CIF Southern Section’s 2A Division. They are seeded 4th in the tournament and will face number 5 Sierra Canyon (21-3) from Chatsworth.

Temecula Valley will play Damien in the Division 1 opener. The Golden Bears were Co-Champions of the Southwestern league and have a 19-8 record overall. Damien is 22-6.

In Division 2A, Vista Murrieta will lock horns with Hesperia. The Broncos have a 17-10 overall record. Hesperia is 22-5. Red Hot Southwestern league Co- Champion Great Oak has an 8 game winning streak on the line when they host Tesoro. The Titans are 17-9.

Four local teams will be in the race to the Division 3A Crown. Sunbelt league Champion Temescal Canyon will be home to face

San Gabriel. The Titans are 19-9 and the Matadors are 13-8.

Murrieta Mesa will travel to Adelanto to take on the Saints. The Rams finished with the most league wins in school history and are 21-8 overall. Adelanto is 15-10.

The Subelt has 2 more teams competing in this Division. Paloma Valley will play Palm Desert and Elsinore will face off against Blair. The Wildcats are an impressive 21-6 this season while the Tigers is 14-14.

Yet another Sunbelt league team will be in the Division 4AA playoffs. Heritage will travel to play Hillcrest. The Patriots are 15-11 while the Trojans are 25-3.

In the 5AA Division Santa Rosa Academy will face Boron. The Rangers are 13-7 this season and the Bobcats are 14-8. In Division 5AAA, California Military Institute will play Orange. The Rough Riders are a record of 11-16 and the Panthers are 12-8.
