HS Boys Basketball: Four Local Teams Ranked in this Week’s CIF Southern Section Polls

Rancho Christian, Murrieta Mesa, Great Oak and Calvary Murrieta Make the Grade

In the first poll of the new year, four local teams have been ranked as the top 16 teams in their Divisions in the CIF Southern Section January 7th Poll. Rancho Christian, Murrieta Mesa, Great Oak and Calvary Murrieta have been selected among some of the top teams in their Divisions.

Rancho Christian is ranked second in Division 1. The Eagles are nearly perfect this season, with a 14-1 record and coming off a first place finish at the Classic at Damien on December 30th. Rancho Christian’s only loss came at the Tarkanian Classic Las Vegas Championship to Bishop Gorman.

The Eagles will play the fourth ranked team in Tennessee, Memphis East on January 11th in the Geico ESPN High School Showcase. The game will be televised on ESPN2 as the two of the highest ranked players in the nation, Evan Mobley and James Wiseman of Memphis East, face off against each other.

Murrieta Mesa is ranked 11th in Division 2A. The Rams finished second in the Southwestern league last season behind Temecula Valley and Great Oak who tied for the title. Murrieta is 11-5 thus far this season and will face off against Vista Murrieta Wednesday.

Great Oak comes in at the 15th spot in the same Division.

Last year’s Southwestern league co-champion is looking to win it all this season. The Wolfpack is 8-9 as they begin league play against Temecula Valley.

In Division 5A, Calvary Murrieta is tied for the 10th place ranking with Arroyo Valley. The Warriors are 10-6 this year and will play Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School tomorrow. Murrieta looks to improve on last year’s 6-17 record.
