HS Boys Basketball: Great Oak & Temecula Valley Tied for First Place in the Southwestern League with One Game to Play

The Wolfpack Face Vista Murrieta & the Golden Bears take on Chaparral in the League Finale Tonight

The Wolfpack and the Defending Southwestern league Champion Golden Bears find themselves locked in a battle for first place with one game left to play. Both Teams are 7-2 in league play.

Temecula Valley will face off against Chaparral in the league finale. The Pumas are 0-9 in league play and would love to upset the Golden Bears. Temecula Valley is coming off a dramatic 68-60 victory over Murrieta Mesa who is in third place with a league record of 6-3.

“Statistically… an even game throughout that we just missed a couple more shots than TV did” said Murrieta Mesa Coach Chris Jones on Tuesday’s loss. “We really struggled to find balanced scoring and made some critical errors in our transition defense a couple times”.

“A couple times is too many in a league championship game and against a team as talented as Temecula Valley. The same was true against Great Oak last Friday night. We picked a bad time to lose two in a row for the first time this year…..but Great Oak and Temecula Valley are two very good teams that you must be at the top of your game to beat”.

The Wolfpack will battle Vista Murrieta tonight in their last game of the regular season. The Broncos are 3-6 and lost the last game against Great Oak by a score of 59-48. Vista Murrieta is also focused on ruining the Great Oak season tonight.

Murrieta Mesa takes on Murrieta Valley this evening. The Rams are looking to finish the season with the best league record in school history. Murrieta Mesa was 6-4 in the 2012-2013 season.

All games begain at 7pm.
