The Rams Made Up a 17 Point Deficit in the Second Half Only to Fall in Overtime
Trailing 39-22 at the half, Murrieta Mesa came out of the locker room after the break a different team. The Rams changed the momentum of the game in the third period and battled back against a tough, punishing Wolfpack defense.
The Rams outscored Great Oak in the third period 21-13 to make it a 52-43 game as a crowded Wolf’s Den crowd came back to life. Murrieta Mesa then stunned the hometown fans with a 16-7 fourth to tie the game at 59 apiece and send it into overtime.
The Wolfpack finally stopped the bleeding in overtime as they sank eight of the 12 free throws from the Charity Stripe in overtime to win the game.
Jason Bush led the Wolfpack with 15 points. Zeryck Russon added 13 more while CJ Stevenson and Zach Hickey had 9 points each. Tej Johnson scored 8 and Christian Ross 6 points. Zack Ashbrook and Darian Rodriguez scored 2 points apiece and Trevor Mcnabb sunk a free throw.
Murrieta Mesa’s Trevon Wright was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. Brandon McIntosh would score 15 more and Dane Grippo 10. Gio Sanders and Elisha Williams each scored 6 while Anthony Routh, Devin Fortune and JT Roulier each scored two points apeice.
Murrieta Mesa is 9-10 overall and looking for their Southwestern league victory. They hope to get it against Murrieta Valley at home this coming Wednesday night.
