Seven Local Teams Advance to the Second Round of the Playoffs

Round One of the CIF Southern Section Championship Playoffs are over and local teams are still in the race for a Divisional Championship. Others have tasted defeat and are looking forward to next year.

Temecula Valley was crushed by Damien in the Division 1 Opener. The Golden Bears, Co-Champions of the Southwestern league had a 19-8 record overall before the game.. Damien (23-6) seemed to score at wll as they defeated Temecula 100-67.



In Division 2A, Vista Murrieta locked horns and lost to Hesperia (23-5) . The Broncos came up a bit short and were stung by the Scorpions 57-44.

Southwestern league Co- Champion Great Oak stayed Red Hot in the CIF SS Opening Round. The Wolfpack slipped past Tesoro 53-48 winning their 9th consecutive game. Great Oak advances to play

Three of the four local teams are still in the race to the Division 3A Crown. Sunbelt league Champion Temescal Canyon (20-9) beat San Gabriel into the ground and came away with a 65-37 victory. The Titans will play Citrus Valley next.

Murrieta Mesa traveled to Adelanto and beat the Saints 58-46. The Rams finished with the most league wins in school history and are now 22-8 overall. They face Marina next.

The Subelt’s Paloma Valley took care of business in Palm Desert. The Wildcats defeated the Aztecs easily by a score of 58-41. Paloma Valley will next take on Miller in round 2.

Elsinore was eliminated from the Division 3A by Blair. The Tigers lost 82-71.

Another Sunbelt league team was eliminated in the Division 4AA playoffs. Heritage fell to mighty Hillcrest (26-3). The Patriots finished the season at 15-12.

In the 5AA Division Santa Rosa Academy beat Boron 67-44. The Rangers are now 14-7 this season and will advance to round 2 of the CIF SS Playoffs to face Nogales.

In Division 5AAA, California Military Institute defeated Orange 54-48. The Rough Riders have a record of 12-16 and will play Malibu next.

Rancho Christian has been selected to compete n the Elite Open Division. Only the top 8 teams in Southern California have been invited into this exclusive bracket. The Eagles play Friday.
