HS Boys Basketball: Murrieta Mesa Advances to the Quarterfinals…Rancho Christian, Great Oak, Paloma Valley, Santa Rosa Academy & California Military Institute Eliminated

Friday Night’s CIF SS Championship Playoff Recap

Friday Night’s CIF Southern Section Championship Boys Basketball Playoffs turned out to be devastating for five local High School teams. Only Murrieta Mesa survived to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Division 3A Championships.

Murrieta Mesa outscored Marina 39-17 in the second half to beat a very tough Vikings team by a final score of 60-54. The Rams are now an impressive 23-8 overall and advance to play Citrus Valley in the quarterfinals next on Tuesday.

Two other local teams that were in the race to the Division 3A Crown were eliminated. Sunbelt league Champion Temescal Canyon (20-10) was defeated by Citrus Valley 49-48. The Titans end the season 20-10.

Another Sunbelt team, Paloma Valley fell to Miller in a thriller in round two of the playoffs 70-68. The Wildcats were 22-7 overall this year.

In Division 2A, Great Oak’s 9 game winning streak came to end last night. The Wolfpack offense just couldn’t ignite as they lost to Cypress 70-48, Great Oak was 19-11.

In the 5AA Division Santa Rosa Academy season also came to an end.. The Rangers are now 14-8 this season after losing their round 2 CIF SS Playoff match to Nogales 65-58.

California Military Institute also lost in the Division 5AAA Playoffs. The Rough Riders fell to Malibu 79-44. They ended the season with a record of 12-16.

Rancho Christian was selected to compete n the Elite Open Division. Only the top 8 teams in Southern California were invited into this exclusive bracket.

The Eagles lost to Sierra Canyon 83-79 in the opening round. Rancho Christian was ranked Number One in Division 2A and has a record of 26-3
