HS Boys Basketball: Murrieta Mesa Crushes Chaparral 74-47 in Southwestern League Opener


Temecula Valley Squeezes by Vista Murrieta 69-64 and Murrieta Valley Beats Great Oak 56-51

Murrieta Mesa stayed red hot as the Rams won their Southwester league opening match 74-47 over Chaparral. The Rams jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first period and took a 32-20 lead at the half. Murrieta Mesa poured it on in the second half, outscoring the Pumas 42-27 for an impressive win.

It was Jonah Zandi who led the Rams in scoring Tuesday with 13 points. Shamar Wright scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Murrieta and Lamar Wright added 11 points.

Gio Sanders and Ryan Lynton scored 8 points each, Elisha Williams 5 and Caleb Lowe, Devin Fortune, and Anthony Salas added 4 apiece.

Chaparral was paced by Roman Dimapilis who led all scorers with 17 points. Jordan White added 11 points while Jonathan Galan and Ryan Garner scored 5 apiece. Jason Steffen also had 4 points.

The Rams are 15-4 this year and 1-0 in league. Chaparral falls to 6-11 for the season.

In other Southwestern league action, Murrieta Valley beat Great Oak 56-51. The Nighthawks are 5-12 for the season and Great Oak is 10-8.
