HS Boys Basketball: Murrieta Mesa Defeats Great Oak 55-38

Shamar & Lamar Wright Combine for 30 Points to lead the Rams Past the Wolfpack

Murrieta Mesa continued to impress skeptics as the Rams won their second straight victory in the Southwestern League. Murrieta used a devastating second period to outscore the Wolfpack 16-3 to put the game away.

Great Oak opened the second half with a 16-8 run in the third period, but it was just too little too late. The Rams slammed the door shut in the final period to go on to win 55-38.

Shamar Wright led Murrieta Mesa in scoring with 19 points. His twin brother  Lamar was also in double figures with 11 points.

Gio Sanders and Devin Fortune each scored 6 points for the Rams. Jonah Zandi and Anthony Salas added 5 and Dane Grippo scored 3 points.

Great Oak was led by Zach Hickey who scored 12 points. Christian Ross scored 10 while Jalen Punsalan and CJ Stevenson each added 5. Darian Dominguez and Tej Johnson had 3 points apiece.

In other Southwestern league action, Vista Murrieta beat Chaparral 66-57 and Temecula Valley escaped with a 95-89 victory over the Nighthawks in overtime.

Four Southwestern league teams are participating in today’s 2nd Annual Rancho Christian Eagle Basketball Showcase.

Murrieta Mesa improves to 16-4 while the Wolfpack falls to 10-9. Great Oak has lost it’s first 2 league games.
