HS Boys Basketball: Murrieta Valley, Great Oak both Defeated in Friday’s Nighthawk Classic Tournament Action

Beaumont Beats MVHS 61-52 while the Wolfpack Falls to Rancho Verde 46-34

15385321_1164850026938043_734611455142348025_oGreat Oak and Murrieta Valley were defeated in Friday’s 24th Annual Nighthawk Classic Tournament action. The lone Southwestern league winner of the Day was Murrieta Mesa, who stunned Norco 63-50.

Defending Tournament Champion Rancho Verde improved its record to 7-1 and the Mustangs are looking to win the tournament again this year. Rancho Verde won easily, 46-34 en rout to Saturday’s Finals.

15385257_1164850190271360_1247372972760797880_oThe Mustangs were once again led by sophomore Troy San Antonio who scored 18 points against a tough Great Oak defense. Senior Ajani Kennedy added 16 points and senior Damien Reedy 10.

Juniors Christian Ross and CJ Stevenson led the Wolfpack with 7 points apiece. Junior Zach Hickey scored 6 points in the loss.

Murrieta Valley let yet another game get away from them. The Nighthawks took a 27-20 lead into the locker rooms at the half, only to see their lead slip away. Murrieta Valley seemed to rush things and would end up with a 61-52 loss as Beaumont took control in the second half.

15391487_1164850263604686_2585413152294954077_oSenior Austin Iannuzzi and sophomore Ryan Lynton led the Nighthawks with 14 points each. Senior Mateo Lopez added 8 points and junior Arturo Rivas 5. Sophomore Anthony Montion and junior Justin White each scored 4 points for Murrieta Valley.

Beaumont was led by junior CJ Clemons who had 22 points. Seniors Robert Rodriguez added 15 points, Jalen January 8, and Aaric Sanders 6 in the victory over the Nighthawks.

Murrieta Valley plays Rancho Verde and Beaumont faces Elsinore today.
