The Nighthawks’ Brian Collins Scored 35 Points in the Losing Effort
Temecula Valley won its second straight Southwestern league victory Friday night but needed an overtime period to seal the deal. The defending Southwestern league Champions fought to a 86-86 tie with the Nighthawks before winning 95-89 in overtime.
Murrieta Valley jumped out to a 27-18 lead in the first period and led 48-42 at the half. The Golden Bears fought back in the third period, outscoring Murrieta Valley 21-13 to tighten it up.
Both teams excelled in the fourth period to set up the overtime. Temecula would outscore the Nighthawks 9-3 to secure the win.
Kryztian Walton led the Golden Bears with 21points. He also grabbed a team leading 11 rebounds. Raphael Allen added 20 points while Nate Jacobsen scored 15points and snatched 10 rebounds. Trevor McNabb had 13 points and Josh O’Campo 11 for the Bears.
Murrieta Valley was led by Brian Collins’ 35 points. Jared Armbruster added 20, Andrew Shackelford 15, Alex Cartwright 13 and Arturo Rivas 6 points.
In other Southwestern league action, Vista Murrieta beat Chaparral 66-57 and Murrieta Mesa upset Great Oak 55-38.
