The Wolfpack Boys Dominated, Win by 65 Points
As expected, the Great Oak Boy’s Cross Country team ran away with the 2015 Inland Empire Championships outdistancing second place Rancho Cucamonga 22-87. Beaumont placed third with 123 points, Yucaipa fourth (123,.5) and La Sierra was fifth.
The Wolfpack had 4-runners in the top 5 places. Senior Issace Cortes won the individual race for Great Oak with a time of 14:48.1. Junior Soloman Fountain was second (14:57.9), Nelson Quintana fourth (15:11.1) and Carlos Carvajal (15:12.9) was fifth.
“We had a very good meet at the Inland Empire. We won 7 of the 9 races that we entered” said Great Oak Coach Doug Soles. “The Boys varsity team ran really well, they were fantastic, capturing 5 of the top 11 spots in their race”.
The Wolfpack varsity girls finished third in the meet. “It was a really unique race for us” said Soles. “One of our runners dropped out of the race with cramps and another had health issues. We need to refocus and do better in the next event”.
Yucaipa won the Girls Sweepstakes with a score of 50 points and Phelan Serrano was a close second at 58. Great Oak had 70 points followed by Vista Murrieta who finished fourth with 112.
The next cross country event is the Mt. SAC Invitational, one of the most prestigious in the country.
