The Wolfpack Boys and Girls Teams Focused on a National Championship
The Great Oak Girls and Boys Cross Country team won their first big meet of the 2015 season as they swept the Woodbridge Invitational over the weekend. The Wolfpack’s Spencer Dodds won the Boys individual race with a time of 14:24.3 as he led the Wolfpack to a 35 point victory over ML King. Desert High was third.
Issac Cortes finished 10th for Great Oak with a time 14:44.9 and Cole Spencer was 14th in 14:50.6, Nelson Quintana 31st (15:04.3), Brandon Shields 35th (15;12.0), Michael Garcia 53ed (15:24.7) and Tony Robinson finished 72nd (1;36.0).
The Wolfpack Girls team proved how deep, powerful and resilient they are. “It’s great when you see some of the younger girls step up” said Great Oak Coach Doug Soles. “I just want them to be able to go out and show what they can do”.
Great Oak ran the race without their two top runners, Destiny Collins and Kiyena Beatty and still destroyed second place finisher Hart by a score of 46 to 138. Woodbridge placed third with 191 points. Sophomore Sandra Pflughoft led the pack with her 12th place finish in 17:05.7. Sydney Belus was 14th (17:08), Skyler Bollinger 17th (17:17.5) junior Nicole Rice was 25th (17:23.7), Taylor Walker 30th (17:42:.1), and Desiree Stringer finished 53ed with a time of 18:071.
Several Polls have the Wolfpack Boys and Girls Cross Country teams ranked first in the Nation this year.
