The Pirates 14 Point 3ed Quarter Ends the Pumas Playoff Run and Season
Chaparral lost to Paramount in the Quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Championship Playoffs Friday night. The Pirates were trailing 7-6 when they exploded for 2 touchdowns to pull ahead 20-7 in the third quarter.
“We missed some opportunities to take the lead in the first half but it’s not like they didn’t have an impact on what we were doing as a football team,”said Chaparral head coach Jeremy McCullough. “They’re 11-1 for a reason. In a quarterfinal game, we’ve got to find a way to finish those drives.”
Paramount had shutout of their last four opponents. They had outscored their opponents 224 to 20 in their last five games. past month. They possess one of the best defenses in the Division. The Pumas 21 points was the most the Pirates have allowed since September 29th to Division 1 Venice.
Paramount quarterback Cedric Hood went 15 for 30 for 176 yards. Ty’Rese Gibson caught 2 touchdowns and Darius Wallace grabbed one for the Pirates. Pierre Robinson rushed for 189 yards and scored twice. One of his runs covered 54 yards for a touchdown..
Jacob De lara led the Pumas with 99 yards rushing on seven carries. Stanley Dixon and Justin Manqueros scored Chaparral’s 2 rushing TDs. On defense, Jayson Pace and Jevon Hill had two sacks apiece for the Pumas.
Chaparral finishes the 2017 season with a record of 7-5. This youthful team was 2-3 in the Southwestern league and there will be lots of good football in the coming seasons.
The Pirates are 11-1 and advance to play Moorpark in next week’s CIF Southern Section Semi-finals. The Musketeers slipped past Lawndale 22-20 in the quarterfinals.
